Default 1968 C3 Air Conditioning Install - Radiator Support Issue

I purchased a 68 C3 convertible that has a radiator support that has cross bars in front of the radiator (used in these cars that did not have air conditioning). The cars that had air conditioning did not have these cross bars in front of the radiator. I want to install a VintageAir A/C in this car. Can I just cut out the cross bars that are in front of the radiator or do I have to get a new radiator support?

This is what I have now.

This is what came on cars with A/C

Hi PC,
I really don't see any reason why you can't remove the cross-bars.

Are you currently using an aluminum radiator or the copper radiator that an a/c car would of had?

There appears to be some other holes the the a/c core support that the non a/c support doesn't have.
Are they going to need to go into your non a/c support to simplify installation of the a/c system?
Regards,
Alan

I just placed the condenser in front of those 2 bars when I installed my Hot Rod A/C condenser in.

No, the holes are not used in the a/c system except to mount the condenser supports. Those holes seem to be present in the right spots.

I have an aluminum double core radiator. Seems that is lightweight.

Thanks for your reply, Alan!

I thought about that, too. But I did not know if it would work. I did not intend to cut the cross bars until I saw that the condenser would not fit with the bars intact. Just getting ducks in a row before ordering the kit!

Thanks so much for your help!!

Fits quite easily. Let me know if you want a picture.

I would love a photo if you can get one. It would be reassuring to me as I work to install the A/C.

Thanks so much for your help!

Here is an old picture that I have on file. Not the best quality but I think you can see that it fits ok. I'm thinking about getting a bigger condenser since I think I need to evacuate and recharge soon. I cools down to ~40°F for awhile and then doesnt.... Anyway, take a look. If you want another and/or more pics, then just say so.

It's been installed for about a dozen years.
