replace front and side badges
Hello from Down Under, need some help.
I have just bought new front and both side badges for my 79, best way to remove existing badges? and also what do i use to hold the new replacement badges in place? Any special tape that someone can recommend for this purpose?
Any info appreciated.

I just removed my nose and side emblems on my 71 so they may be different.
Behind each of them are a number of speed nuts attacked to pins on the emblems.
After removing the speed nuts i used fishing line behind the emblem to break away the old adhesive strips.
My new side emblems have the adhesive strips already on them.
I don't have a 79 AIM to check but they may have been fully done with double side adhesive by then..
Have a look behind them and see what you can see.

After almost 40 years, sometimes they're just come off with a little gentle prying. Often you can remove them with a hair drier or heat gun. By warming them up a little, they'll often come loose.
Finally, you can remove them by using some dental floss or Stren (fishing line). Drag the line across the body, behind the emblem, and use it to separate the double sided tape from the body.
After removing the emblems, use 3M Adhesive Remover to clean off what's left of the old double sided tape and adhesive.
To replace the emblem, use 3M double sided emblem and molding tape. Just trim it to fit the emblems, and press them back in place.

I recommend using a heat gun on the area to help soften the adhesive. I just removed the side moldings on my C5 and the heat gun made it easy and it helps remove any remaining adhesive after you get the badge off.

The gas door emblem is held on by two 1/4-20 acorn nuts.
The rear bumper "Corvette" script, is attached with speed nuts. There are three of them, spaced across the back side of the emblem.
If the car has the L-82, the "L-82" hood emblems use speed nuts.
