Default Why put a toggle switch deep in the center console

I'm in the process of putting an engine and speed in my 81 C3. In installing the stick shift i had to remove the auto selector. I found this toggle switch inside the center console that shuts power off to the distributer. I fully understand the thief deterrent of shutting down the distributer i just don't understand why you would put it in the center console that u would need to dismantle to get access to.

Just a guess, but maybe a previous owner simply removed the ashtray to switch it off.

My dad rip was a plane tech and machinest so he was always overkilling something on his avanti,

He had lots of so called hidden switches for things,

When he was failing and had me sell the car for him about 3 weeks later the buyer calls me and wanted to explain the switchs to his tech...lol

I did an update of that using a relay linked to RKE (remote keyless entry) system I added.

Lots of us old farts used to-and still do that stuff.
On the vette the ash tray. even mounting the switch back so it could only be reached with a long rod or handle.

I had a small switch mounted under the inside trim below the removable rear window on my 68 coupe. It grounded out the distributor. I had to remove it because I was afraid of blowing up the new HEI distributor, if I used it. Lou.

You can see part of a key operated lock in the hole in the carpet on the passenger side of my '72. I always wondered if, at some time, there were leads to and from the starter hooked up to the other side of the switch at one time, so that the driver could lift the floor mat and turn the switch with a key, so that the starter would not engage.
