Interior questions
I have a 72 Targa Blue with white top.
Nice car in good shape.
My first question:
How can i find out if the car was delivered with custom interior (De Luxe Interior) or not. I do not have the tank sticker or the bill sheet.
The car have it today but i think it could be nice to know
Second question:
On the metal plate on the drivers side i can read 979=Targa Blue exterior and 412 that means blue interior with vinyl seats.
As you do know, the custom interior add Cut Pile carpet, wood grain on the door panels and the panel where the geer shift is located.
Now the tricky part. If i look in the "Corvette Black Book" it´s clear that the blue seat covers was not avaliable in leather, only vinyl.
However leather seats is a part in the custom interior.
Do this means that a car with blue interior that have the Custom Interior have everything except leather seats?
Was it then possibel to order leather seats to the blue interior?
On the after market there exist leather seats but are they just something that offers but not OE.
Waiting for your answers/help
Please forgive me for my not so good swedish school english.

Your English is fine!
The custom interior option was available only in black and saddle during the 70-72 model years.
So the 412 on your trim tag indicates a blue interior with vinyl seat covers and 80/20 loop carpet.

Alan

If i understand this correct now:
Mine 72 Targa Blue convertible with blue interior (412) can never have been delivered with the custom interioror or leather sets.
This is how the car looks today:
Blue interior with vinyl seats, blue loop carpet, wood grain on the door panels and wood grain on the door panels and where the geer shift is located.
I´m planning to restore the interior and that means that i should change to the standard doors panels and remove the wood grain where the geer shift is located.
After that i should have the interior in the way it had been from the start.
Looks that someone of the earlier owners did think that it looks good with the wood grain interior details and then changed.
I think that the floor carpet could be in good condition but dirty.
Can i take it out and cleen it with water and soft brush.
Or will it change the shape and not fit in the car after that?
Is it possibely to find out how the car looks from the beginning?
It´s matching if we talk about the engine block, heads, intake, carburetor, distrubitor, geerbox (auto) and maby som more. I will investigate further as much as i can now during the long winter.
I will probably have moore question further on so please have patiens with me.

Generally the carpet can be cleaned successfully.
You can use gentle carpet cleaning products on it.
Getting all the pieces out and then back in place is a bit of work but very possible.
Are you ASKING HOW to determine if the car has it's original parts or saying that it does?
The engine and transmission were stamped with information that will indicate if they indeed were originally installed in this car at the factory in St.Louis.
The engine information is stamped on a small pad on the engine block located in front of the right side head. It consists of 2 stamps; one indicating when the engine was assembled and in what configuration and the other the VIN of the car it was first installed in.
The transmission information is stamped on the side of the transmission. Again there are 2 stamps; one indicating when the transmission was assembled and in what configuration and the other the VN of the car it was first installed in.
Once you find those you can begin to look for the other date and part number information on specific parts.

Alan

A 72 Targa Blue is a very nice color, especially with the correct vinyl interior. Here are some photos that I found on line from a beautiful Targa Blue convertible with a Black Vinyl Hardtop. This will give you and idea of what your original interior would have been like from the factory.
