In my stash of stuff I have found an alternator I tagged as being from a 1978 with heavy duty battery. I never had one that new, so where I got it is a mystery too.

I'm thinking I identified it from the little book of casting numbers as a 61 amp made in Oct 3rd 1977. Correct?
They did not use the letter "I" so J would mean September. The judging manual and other sites I use has no listing for 486. A google shows someone mentioning the use on 70's Camaro, Firebird, etc.
Perhaps it was determined later that the number was used but never added to the listing but nothing of note.

I can keep as a spare for my 54 (has a V8 with alternator) but was thinking if it's something actually needed for a restoration better where it belongs.
