So its January, time to get to some of the projects while the snow falls here in the northeast. looking to go through my cooling system, and I am going to remove the hood. Any suggestions on storing the hood. I will be covering in a couple of moving blankets but what considerations do I need to take into account when laying flat or standing on end. Are they any special considerations because its fiberglass?
I would not stand it up in case you damage the corners I simply got 2 2 by 4s placed 1 across rear and 1 across front tied ropes around the ends and hung them up Phil
Hi Phil,
I agree with Phil that the rear corners and center front are pretty easy to damage.
Even if you're going to lay it flat...
You might consider buying a length of clear plastic tubing at the home store.
Cut it in 3 pieces and slit each piece lengthwise.
Slip each piece in place and secure it with painter's tape in a couple of places if it seems like it wants to come off.
This protects both the paint and fiberglass.
Regards,
Alan
I have a long hood hanging in my shed , all I did was get some sturdy thin rope and tie it across from two beams , up against a wall , put the bolts with washers back in the hinge mount holes but leave a few threads out and hook the rope up between the washers and the glass. Nice and neat , up high and out of the way.
I had some carpet padding from changing out to new carpet, rolled it up and sat the front pointed side on that, leaned against the wall away from traffic etc. No problems, sent the hood off to be painted the correct color to go on the hood.
Garage is pretty small so it's usually in the house
I put a folded (to make it thicker) moving blanket on the floor against the wall and stand the hood up on it's side against the wall with another folded blanket over the other side where it touches the wall.
