Ok, unless someone knows diffferent, I am pretty sure I can rule out 68 or 69 as the panel light does not yield green backlit numbers ----- numbers light up white. So 70-75???? This narrows down my wiring. Also from this 3cvr forum thread --useful info on the green wires from rraider1. I do have 2 sony 8 ohm home entertainment speakers I can use when I do test.

And more info.

'68-71 were a light green font; '72 and later were white.

Default 68-75 AM/FM Mono radio output pins wiring

Ok, the following was the info I was seeking to see if a 68-75 corvette radio with cut off plugs could be tested. Correct me if you know better. It appears I have a 72-74 -- bluish dial light. I do not know the last year GM put a mono in a vette. I would expect the wiring output pins to the mono convector and the 2 speakers to be the same positions for 68-75 even tho wire colors may be different 68-69? -- dunno for sure.

I picked up an untested ds501 convector on ebay - works fine - I have another ds501 coming to test.

This radio works both speakers across the dial inside a closed steel building with a 18" marine antennae--used 2 - 8 ohm speakers. Bass/treble works fine. I do not think it needs any radio maintenance. All repaired wiring connections inside radio were twist and soldered then heat shrink.

The pics show what I found on wiring and my test set up.

For C3s, 82 unless the buyer ordered one of the optional stereo units. Begining in 79, mono was standard.

Mike: I think you meant to say that in '79, the stereo radio unit became standard. Mono AM/FM units were standard thru 1978. Stereo radios were available as options in C3's from the onset (1968).

Default ds515 in place of a ds501 and vice versa

I did not get to try this ---but I could have. I got this answer after I boxed the radio and convector for shipping. To try just one-- needs to be mono. Not sure yet if I can mix a ds501 and a ds515 for a stereo, but you never know I may get the chance to try sometime
.
DS515's are plentiful in 70-80 A bodies AM/FM stereos and other.

Posts: 2 Hello, I am at best a radio novice -- a user. I hook up wires and listen.

I have a Delco AM/FM mono radio that has a remote Delco DS501 convector/amp. Can I use a DS515 convector /amp on this radio without ill effects? I have tested the radio with a good ds501 and it works fine.

thanks

Posts: 6259 The DS-501 transistor can be replaced by an NTE105 while the DS-515 is replaced by an NTE121. The two devices have different case styles that are not interchangeable.

Both devices are Germanium PNP audio output power transistors. Just different cases. Germanium devices are somewhat rare and expensive as a result (probably in the $30 to $40 range).

However if you replace both the transistor AND the heat sink they are attached to your could use one for the other. Whether there would be other mechanical issues is some thing I cannot determine.

Posts: 2 Wow, that is good news as the ds515 in their heat sinks are a little more easliy found than the ds501. I think usually the ds515's are found in pairs for stereo. thankyou ----- now I will try out a ds515 in place of a ds501 and listen to the result. There is also a ds503 that seems to be more in AM only delcos. I do not know that for sure.

again thanks
