The chrome ones have a base bracket which screws into a plate attached in the door. Then the mirror attachd to the bracket.
Youll have to see if the backing plates are attached to the door, probably damaged or drilled for the sport mirrors.

On my 75 i took off the chromed mirrors and put the sport mirrors on, last repaint i went back to the chromed mirrors.
Be aware that going from sport to chromed mirrors the base sizes are different sizes.

Thanks,

Passenger size of 1975 Corvette with sport mirrors removed. You can see what may be the bondo that has expanded from where they filled the screw holes for the original mirrors.

If you have a passenger side mirror attached and are going to replace it, be aware that this was ONLY a dealer installed option. This mirror can be mounted with well-nuts thru the skin (no inside plate).
I came across a '75 car a few years ago that was basically a parts car and the driver's side mirror was removed. I made a template of the mounting holes in relation to the front and top of the door for a friend in the same situation you are in .

Looks brand new.First off, your original photo of the mirror as mounted on your car appears to be missing the gasket which corrects the angle to a more viewable position. That may have something to do with how you feel about the mirrors. It's a black rubber gasket with a built in angle to move the mirror outward from the car. You might get one and see if you like your mirror better
You may also have a problem with mismatched mounting positions and lack of paint where the new one is best mounted.
I have a bit of a thread as to how to mount these securely if you're interested.
I went the other way on my car, as I did like the look of the mirrors better, and, a big AND,
I got tired of continually rolling down my window to adjust the chrome mirrors because somebody had bumped it, or I was going 80 or so and it had blown upwards, or had hit some bumps in the road, or it had gotten sloppy again. It is essential to find a mirror with a good stiff pivot.
I made sure, when I did the install to cut a hole in my door's comfort weave panel to allow driver access to the adjusting toggle. On the passenger side I have a convex mirror that gives best viewing angles to that side.
I'm pretty happy with the result.
