Default coolant temp gauge not moving

Recently my temp gauge of the coolant has stopped moving. The oil temp gauge will go up but not coolant. What can I do to test if it is the gauge or the sensor that has gone bad?

on the front left side of the motor in the head is the sensor. First thing check the connector mine has popped off the sensor a few times. You can also ground the wire out and see if the gauge moves. If it does sensor is bad

The connector on my sensor was making poor contact too. Slightly crimping the connector made it snap onto the sensor tightly.....no more problems

With ignition ON (engine not running...nor does it need to be warmed up), remove sending wire from temp sender; needle on temp gauge should go full-scale to the right. Now touch that connector terminal to electrical ground (frame or any metal that has solid connection to ground, alternator case, etc); the needle should go to 0 (full-scale left).

If something close to that happens, the wiring and gauge are fine; the sending unit is 'toast'.
