Default Counter exchange block

Can anyone tell me what I should see stamped on a counter exchange block, if anything? Block was changed under warranty within a year of manufacture.
Thank you

What year car? Small block or big block?

Most likely nothing will be stamped on the block, but you can track down the years most blocks were made back then.

Small block 1973. There is a casting date of 1974 but no other numbers stamped. Just wondered if this was normal.
Thanks

I think it means 'Chevrolet Engine"
http://chevellestuff.net/qd/engine_stamp_numbers.htm

The first digit after CE indicates the year and the #s that follow fall into a range that might be associated with a particular plant.

There's a block cast # on the driver's side rear and a cast date on the passenger side rear. As for what's normal, I was happy to see that the 350 in mine was manufactured right around the same time the car was - within days or weeks. The console plate shows a 350/350, which isn't exactly conclusive. The #s I pulled off the distributor, heads and exhaust manifolds tell me they are the correct vintage also, and compression tests read 215psi per cylinder so best guess it's a close approximation to that. At least I didn't find out it's out of somebody's Mom's Caprice Wagon. No way to really know how it got there or when. I just like finding stuff like this and looking it up.

Here's the stamp pad from my 3963512, '69 427. The "0" following "CE" designates 1970 and the following 7XXXX is the Tonawanda built, unit sequence number. The block casting date is "L5 9" (December 1969). The starter mount pad is stamped "T129" (December 1969).

Thanks for the info people.
The only detail I have at the moment are a cast number of A94 and also another: 3970010. I could ask to see if there's a number on the starter pad as in the link provided.
I can't see it myself as I'm 3500 miles away.

CE is Chevy Engine. They were either warranty replacements or bought outright in the parts department. If you blew (or bought) a transmission, you get a tranny stamped "CT" for Chevy Transmission.

The 010 blocks are generic 350s and used in dozens of GM applications, including Corvettes.

just a w.a.g but if it were A094 I'd say Jan 09 1974.

if the pad is blank and nothing is stamped, then that is a sign of a previous block decking from a previous rebuild.. whenever.. maybe decades ago and many owners ago.. then you have to do some further sleuthing and check for the correct broach marks, block casting number, and date casting number.

But not always. My block pad isn't stamped and hasn't been decked.

they did not leave the factory unstamped, sorry.
yours most likely was decked in the past.
and would be interrupted as such, by most knowledgeable people.

Way back when, not long after acquiring the car, I posted a pic of the pad. The general consensus was that it probably wasn't decked.
