Okay,
I know several clever ways to attach the flip top racer gas caps,
But this thread is hunting anyone who has it actually installed on the tank, functional,
I think i wanna go that way....

I haven't installed one- but looked at the idea-
best google search "marine flip top fuel filler"
These look like they would be the best way to go instead of just a cap.

As a preliminary,
It would need a flange adaptor for lack of a better name mine and most all the flip caps made in the last 20 years are an inport item with a screw in base,
Its aluminum,
On a c3 the tank top is down in there...from the top of the rear deck,
So one would need an adaptor to span that distance attach to the tank either bolt or weld then bolt to the caps screw on adaptor,
To make it more fun than tank top is about flat level the deck is on a slight angle....

Burning Brakes
I did a little digging into this a while ago but wasn't able to come up with anything that is pre-made. This would most certainly involve having some custom machined parts made up.

My recollection is that IMSA and FIA started requiring the one-way check ***** with a positive seal in the early 80's so companies stopped making them for "real" racecars. Look at some of the Cobra kitcar stuff for mounting to a fuel cell or as mentioned above a marine application.

Hey if you do run across any real dimensions on this adapter neck can you let me know? I am a machinist by trade and can score some aluminum tube. I just came across one of these flip tops and would like to put it on my 73. Who knows if it ain't a pain to machine one out maybe I can make one for you as well.

The PDF document has some info about the 2 types that were machined.
The Excel document has dimensioned drawings of both types; A & B.

Here's what I was talking about- All in for less than $100
Already has the neck attached- and it's polished 316 SS
Mod your filler neck to attach a hose- a couple clamps and you are there.
Or you could weld it up.
Cap- $75

2" hose $ 20

This looks it would work with pre 75

Mine is similar to the one Richard put up in post 12. I'm apprehensive about attaching it to the body since you must press down on the cap pretty good to compress the spring enough to latch it. I would worry about cracking the fiberglass in time.

If you want to search for member "jughead", I think you will find what you seek.
