Hopefully someone here has some input for this. I have been working on the heater and replaced the heater core and now I have moved on to the blower. I can get the blower to turn on and run at the different speeds however I have noticed that the switch for high medium and low is either hooked up backwards or the switch is seated backwards in the center console. Now in order to make it work I have to have to hood open. The hood ajar switch is keeping power from getting to the blower. Which is my issue right now. I'm thinking it might be as simple as a bad or missing ground but wanted to get input from others. Any ideas?
how about some info, such as year of car, how long you have had the car, any work done on the car lately etc. I see you are a new member, WELCOME.
I don't see how the hood ajar switch could be the problem, has anyone worked on the blower motor resistor on the firewall (kind of on the top of firewall) this resistor determines the fan speed, the plug could be on backwards, causing it to not operate when hood is opened. Causing a poor connection. IMO

It's a 1973 and I've had it only a few months. I know it's really odd for this to be happening but when ever I have the hood up and the blower running all I have to do to lose power is hold down the hood ajar switch. I will check tomorrow if the plug is on the resistor backwards. Thank you for your input. I'll report my findings.
Your hood switch... for your alarm system...someone has some how made it that the GROUND for your BLOWER MOTOR is coming off of that switch. Which is incorrect....obviously
Disconnect the ground wire on your blower motor and run a new wire and report back to what happens.
ALSO...often times when people work on the starter.,..they confuse the large black wire with the large eyelet terminal as one that gets attached to the lug on the solenoid to supply power to the car. That black wire down by the starter is the GROUND wire for your wiper motor and blower motor....and needs to be bolted to either the bolt for your transmission bellhousing or one of the bolts that hold the starter to the engine block.

Hi DUB,
Thank you for the help! It turns out that this was the issue and I ran a new wire for the ground and it solved the problem. Now I need to see why the low, medium, and hi switch seems to be backwards. (It all works just in the reverse order than it should be.) I'll be digging in to that this weekend. Thank you for everyone's help on this.
