Default Alternator battery down in

Hello everyone this is Tird dog first post hoping to get some knowledge my 74 will drain the battery will drain down within 3 day I pulled all the fuses and used my amp meter to. I’d possible circuit problem amp meter shows 660 milliamps on the pos voltage lead to battery. and see if I could locate my shorts that way I could not find anything other than Transit voltage you know however when I pulled the plug with two wires this gm alt it is a three wire type so is it possible the exciter in the alt is drawing this 460 mill amp when I got to the alternator and also the one marked batt. from the alternator goes back to the battery immediately when I pull the two wires from the alternator went from 560, mill amp c Vet was not running the mill amp went immediately to around 110 mill amp not running to approximately 110 I think I read the exciter lead keep the alt charging while turning at slow rpm helping keep lights bright at idle any way I could sure use some help pointing me in th right direction the forum is great thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Bad/leaking diode in the alternator will exhibit the issue you've described. Easy to test and fix. See the thread linked below for more info.
