Default '69 Small Hole In Firewall?

Like I've said in previous posts, I didn't have the luxury of disassembling my '69 and so I have no recollection of how stuff came apart.

There's a small hole in the firewall (~3/16" Dia.) just below and to the left (in the picture) of the wiper door limit switch. The few firewall pictures I've found on the interweb show nothing in it. Does anyone know what it's for?

Thanks,
-Doug

FWIW...This is my 71, 350 Auto non A/C. I have the same hole but there was nothing in it....there is also a square rubber pad right beside it. This covers a second large hole. The arrow on the second picture is the backside of the hole. On the back side it was closed off with contact cement. You will notice the hole in my firewall on the right is much larger. I believe it was vacum lines. I am up to 10,000 pictures and still wish I took more

Hi Doug,
In looking at the 69 AIM it appears that hole is used for the small vacuum supply line for the heater/defroster control on the shifter console.

I believe it's purpose is different on an a/c car.

I'll include a photo of that line on a 71 car... in a slightly different spot.

I THINK on your car the hose is intended to pass through the larger hole in the photo you posted. I don't think the hose and grommet will fit in the small hole with the arrow in your photo.

Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

The hole in question is much too small for the vac source line to fit.
BTW: The car is non-AC.

I believe this is correct. The first picture is of a '69 firewall I found on the web that I've been using as a reference, although I can't vouch for its accuracy. The second pic is of a vacuum hose assembly that came in a box with the car. The grommet (circled) happens to be a good fit in the larger hole.

It's the purpose of the the smaller hole that remains in question. Left open it would be a leak from the engine bay in to the cabin.

My 69 427 4 spd no AC car has the exact same hole and there has never been anything in it. Something to do with an AC equipped car maybe? The small line for the heater control is to the right of that in the pic on a 69.

Hi CU,
This is a 71 cowl/fire-wall.
If you look carefully you can see what is a small dimple in the fiberglass at that location; in your photo a hole has drilled.
Regards,
Alan

Yet more confusion....
Normally in C-3 land a 3/16th hole is for a rivet....the exact size.

Just covered up the 69....but I'll look.

To add humor....Ya know that BMW et. al. add acoustic add-ons to channel the right sound into the cabin.

This is a weep hole for that authentic Corvette smell! MMm burning oil and blow-by...oh my!

Unkahal.

Mine doesn’t go through. Maybe something on the inside is covering it.
