After putting the weatherstrip around the rear window in my '68 Coupe I tried installing the window to test the fit. However, I am unable to get the top of the window past the latches. It is hitting them (barely) but wont pivot past them. What have I done wrong this time? Looking at my own picture it looks like there is a notch out in the window frame that is not lining up with the latch. Is it possible that I have the wrong window? Was there a difference year to year on that?
It looks like the window in in the right way to me in your picture. I also have just installed a new rear window weatherstrip in my 71. One of the most frustrating projects yet! Embarrassed to say I spent 6 hours on it getting it just right....I had to take a large flat screw driver and gently pry the top of the window down gently to fully seat the 2 lower guide pins at the bottom of the frame, then it went right in. I also had to readjust the top latches to not be so tight against the window when closed. Finally a weather tight and easy to get in and our rear window! The 3 small screws in each upper corner to hold the weatherstrip in place were not originally in my car, but they sure are now! Thanks to Alan for those great pictures, as always!!
The orientation looks right to me. On my modded 73, the roof panel hangs down and blocks the glass panel from seating. A little pressure at the center of the panel and she pops right in. Maybe something similar with your, just a thought.
NO , that's the right way for the frame and glass to be !
the flat side must face outwards to seal on the rubber .
Sometimes the 2 little angled "prongs" on the base of the frame need to be pushed down just that bit more.
Thanks I was pretty sure you would want the flat side to fit against the seal and you may be right that I just need to press it down harder to seat the pegs. I still don't like the looks of where those notches are.

I put a removable set-up in my 77 and have to give it a push down for that last bit . I had to adjust the position of the top latches as well , so they weren't super hard to push shut .
Hi,
Perhaps the screws that mount the receiver bushing and plate in the window sill need to be loosened so the pegs on the bottom of the window frame can move them a bit as the window settles down in to place?
After adjusting the fit and seal of the window those screws could then be tightened again?
Regards,
Alan
I also loosen the screws on the 'pegs' so those can move a bit too when first adjusting the windows.
Thanks for all the input, I will try a couple things that have been suggested. I would think that the notch cut in the window frame was intended to clear this part of the latch.....
A fresh new seal is also part of your problem I would suspect. I helped Stroh put his in and we wrestled with it for a while to get it to act right. Keep workin it. You’ll get it!
Probably just the new seal. I replaced mine ('70) last year and it was TIGHT getting the window back in. Once I did get it in, I left it in place for quite a while to help 'seat' it. 6 months later and it pops in and out no problem!
Well I got it past the latch finally but still cant get it to seat all the way back at the top. I loosened the bottom retaining plate screws as Alan suggested but I don't they have actually moved yet. Anyhow it is getting closer. As suggested I expect I will just have to keep coaxing it into position. The new seals are definitely the main issue as suggested by HOOAH. BTW, I apologize for the look of those hinky looking screws holding in the latches. The deal is that I used non '68 latches and after '68 they went to a larger screw and slot size. I found step bolts that have the correct thread size for the '68 and a larger body diameter to fit the slots in the latches. Not pretty, but it works for now. If my sensibilities become offended enough (I think Bubba Fix every time I look at it) I may end up springing big bucks for the correct ones. Haha!
Hi 68,
Both the aluminum retainers and the nylon bushings should have slotted holes in them which should give you at least SOME adjustment.
On my 71 I need to make certain that the widow is fully 'seated' at the bottom so the top will clear the latches when I push the top of the window in place.
???

Alan
