Header Recommendation Needed 80 Corvette
Guys,
I have a stock 350 5.7l engine in my 80 Corvette. Can you guys recommend a set of headers that will give my car a nice rumbling sound? I need something that is bolt on.

I have the Hooker Super Comp headers as well and I like them, but they aren't going to change the sound much by themselves. For that you will need to change at least the mufflers. For the best sound you need to go to dual exhaust and eliminate the catalytic converter or install the newer high flow units.

I'm going to be Debbie Downer, headers are for the drag strip and not worth the trouble.

Hedman 68308 coated headers. great fit. Then purchased 2.5" exhaust kit with stock type mufflers from Bairs Corvette. motor sounds great. Now i also have a true dual crossmember on my 80 vette now from a 79 vette. so it has two holes in it for exhaust. I am also making 350 hp and 400 tq. So mine sounds nice old school rumble, quiet in the car.

Headers and a nice true dual exhaust will help with both milage and performance. Anything you can do to make an engine breath better is going to benefit it.

If all you're looking for is an increase in the "rumble" from your exhaust, a pair of low restriction, performance mufflers, such as Magnaflows, will do the trick. For a little more noise, try a pair of performance mufflers with either a catalytic converter "test pipe", or a true dual exhaust system. Unfortunately, the 80-82 transmission crossmember, makes installing an efficient dual exhaust system, a little more difficult than it is with 75-79 Corvettes.

A word of caution, I put some Borlas on mine, they sounded great. The drone while on the freeway was terrible and I had to remove them. I was sad, but could not stand the pain. Side exhaust on my 78, with baffles, headers from Street and Performance, no cats. The sound is great and no drone! Can’t hear after a hour drive, but it slowly comes back.
