Default Oil seal steering cylinder

Hello dear Corvette friends,
I want to rebuild my steering cylinder, but how do you get this oil seal out? Thanks for advice.
Regards Claudio.

Just poke into the seal with something pointy and it’ll come out. I have some sharp dental pics that are perfect.

Stay away from the shaft as you don’t want to scratch that surface.

Incidentally, once you get down to metal, you can’t go any further. You won’t be able to remove the piston and ram from the cylinder.

Were you able to get the seal out? Mine seems to be baked on, so I've been picking away at it for hours....just wondering if you can offer any ideas for me....

Thanks for the quick reply, Claudio. I am in the process of rebuilding my control valve and cylinder on my 1980. I thought the hard part would be the PCV and the easy part would be the cylinder, but no dice. The cylinder is proving to be the more time consuming part of the job simply because of the seal. It would not come out easily so I had to pick it out bit by bit. I'm going to the store today to pick up some dental picks. Crazy!

Seal goes out quite easily. First you poke a small hole in the seal. Please note that you do not scratch the shaft. Turn a small small screw into the hole. Pull the seal out with a fine pliers. Good luck, regards from Belgium, Claudio

Good luck. Today the seal kit arrived from Rock-Auto. Saturday I mount the cylinder back in my Corvette. Regards, Claudio
