Without the benefit of having a C3 side view mirror, and a C2 mirror, side by side to compare... Is the C2 mirror not tall enough to be effective, and look good, on a C3? I prefer the round mirror, to the rectangular one.
Thanks.
Got a measurement of 5", for a C2. I will only lose 1/4" due to the mounting arm. With a C3 mirror turned down(as most seem to wear them[including me]), My view shouldn't suffer too bad. Pulling the trigger, on this swap!!
I am completely baffled why no vendor makes a C3 right-side mirror with a convex surface (like modern mirrors). We are stuck with flat mirrors that show only what is next to you and very little else.
Why??

Before I had driven my 72' very much I was all set to install a passenger side mirror but the potential instability of having it just anchored in the fiberglass shell of the door concerned me, and after driving the car for a while I am not convinced that it would improve visibility that much anyway..............
Mirrors have been mounted in fiberglass with threaded rubber inserts for many years. No problems.
If one were anchored to a metal plate behind the fiberglass and the mirror took a significant hit, there would be more damage from stresses on that hard mounting plate than just those rubber inserts (minor glass damage/cracking).
It looks like you've added a 2nd mirror to yours, so that is useful info. I would have assumed the driver's door was reinforced in that area. It looks like dual mirrors weren't available 'til '77, when the body-colored D35 option debuted. Those look good, but only on rubber bumper cars, in my opinion.
