need shifter options for my 69 4 speed
My stock shifter for my 69 muncie 4 speed is nasty
Before I redo this one, what other options might be more price
effective or better performance, ie a hurst?
How much do used shifters of different types go for
I can clean up everything but the chrome stuff pretty easily
on mine

I went with the Hurst shifter with the stock appearing handle. Much better gate feel. Or replace your stock shifter, get new bushings for your linkage, and set it up for the shorter throw.

I've had a hurst for the last couple of years. Its nuetral gate is spring loaded to keep it in the 3-4 gears, you have to move it over to the 1-2 lane against the spring to shift. Getting it into reverse usually required a hard slap .
Its shift arms are a about a 1/4" longer at the rod versus the Muncie shifter so it would be similar. The Hurst has plastic bushings in the arms as well so it would help for a smoother feel. We could drill out the arms and put bushings in the muncie. Provided the rods and arms arent worn out or the holes ovaled and enlarged, I think they will feel similar
I bought an original 68 setup and rebuilt it to see if there is a difference. Its installed but its not on the road yet until spring.
The throws in the short throw setup are definitely short. The biggest difference I've found so far is the nuetral gate not having any tension to keep it in a specific lane. I think with the rubber boots on it it will be a lot different.
Hopefully this info will help out
