1971 Steering Column Lower Bearing Replacement
I replaced the lower bearings about 10 years ago but now am having trouble with the reverse lockout cable--which I just replaced. Doesnt want to push the steering column lever up high enough to remove the key.
Can I just disconnect the steering column from the rag joint and slide it forward enough to remove and replace the bearing without taking it out completely? Don't remember exactly how I did it last time but had a heck of a time getting the lock cylider/turn signal/etc bck together.
Thanks

I would do an adjustment on the firewall mounting bracket, it is adjustable. Have the shifter in reverse, remove shifter cable and adjust bracket so the cable inserts into the backdriver lever easily. Go under the dash to see the mounting studs for the column.
