Default Oil sending unit

I have at last gotten all my dash back together after putting a oem radio in, and got rid of the peace of junk po installed. I put in a new tach board, new speedo, replaced driverside dash, all new bulbes, new speakers. I replaced the oil gauge, which I now think my old one was good. The new gauge went all the way to the right when I started the car. It stayed there when I turned the car off. So I went to Willcox site and it said to check the sender by taking the wire off a grounding it should go to zero. I did and it went to zero. Now for my question do you need to remove the distributor to get the sender out. It does not look like there is much room to screw it up and out.
Thanks as always for the help on the forum.

No one has ideas if it needs to be removed.
