Default seat removal

Ok I am in the process of restoring my 77. yesterday i was going to remove the seat to get started with new covers only to discover the tracks are rusted solid, so i can't get to the back bolts. Any thoughts on how to solve this issue short of cutting out the floor LOL. Thanks

Hi CH,
Have you tried to make certain that the lever you move to unlock the seat on the track is actually moving far enough to unlock?
That will insure that you're not trying to slide the seat against the lock.

Make sure the lock release is releasing. I have worked with a variety of seat tracks and disassembled a few pair to assess how they work and they use roller and ball bearings. The grease gets old and dirty and they do get very hard to move, but freezing up I have never seen. You can also consider using a coating of bicycle chain oil to help lubricate and free up the bearings to roll better.

When you get them out and decide to restore them let me know and I can give you some nice tips to get them clean and put them back into service. If they need to be restored I can help you with that information as well.

If they are rusted and seized you can get at them from underneath car. One side is exposed while the other is in a tight spot but if you have to cut them you can.

When you spray the tracks, try and get at the top of the bolts that hole the seat to the track. If you cant get your hand under there I would look at taking the seat apart before you ccut the floor. Take the back off, then pull the seat cover off the bottom of the seat and try and remove the seat from the track or the seat from the floor after the cushion is off. Atleast you can spray the track easier.

Your going to replace those covers anyway if you mess them up
