Hi George,
2 designs of exhaust tips were used during the 70-72 model year production.
The first:
Has a welded bead connecting the rectangular part of the tip to it's flat rear plate.
The bottom surface of the rectangular part is smooth. No weld or visible seam. (Also, no stamped part number.)
The second:
Is very similar to the first configuration except for the addition of a welded seam on the bottom surface of the rectangular part of the tip. (Again, no stamped part number.)
The NCRS 70-72 TIM&JG indicates that the change in the configuration took place during later 70 production (at about 14000) and ran quite far into 71 production (until about 16000).
It also states that it's not unusual to see one of each configuration on 70 and 71 model year cars DURING that period.
Regards,
Alan

Hi George,
Why don't you contact member tooch1, (Jim).
He's very familiar with 73 cars and I'm sure can give you the right info on the exhaust tips.
Regards,
Alan
No. Your tips can be used on 70-72. The one with the number is a left side tip. Notice the pipes come out the back straight and off center of the back plate. 1973 tip pipes came from the middle and were angled.
