Does everyone know that you can't get the build sheet or window sticker for any Vette. Bulit before 1981. They told me that before 81. All the information was burned. Bummer!!

Hi jh,
Whether the information was burned or not is really just speculation.
All that matters is the information isn't available... that's why finding a build sheet on the tank of 68+ cars is pleasant surprise!

Alan

The NCM has records available only for Bowling Green built cars. And, yes, it appears someone at the museum continues to bring up the fire myth.

I think the fire story first appeared in the NCRS Restorer 20+ years ago. Someone from the NCRS had been given access to the a number of GM storage facilities, in hopes of finding the old build records, but everything kept leading back to the fire story. I think the article even included a picture of the building, the fire was supposed to have been in?

By the way, it's only Bowling Green 81's, that the NCM has window stickers and build sheets for, not the 81's built in St Louis.

GM does have some records for Corvettes built between 76 and 81. I know a couple people who have been able to get copies of their original factory order, or other paperwork, through either the museum or GM Heritage.

Even if the records exist, I'm pretty sure the last thing GM wants, is for them to become public. The lawsuits over bogus cars, would tie up the courts for the next 20 years, and GM would likely be called as a witness, to authenticate the paperwork in every suit.
