I have a 1975 stingray and the rear bumper has some cracks in it. Before I replace the whole bumper, I’d like to epoxy the cracks together for now. What would be the best to use on this plastic? Thanks!
IF it is the original it is made out of urethane, not plastic.
Epoxy will not stop the cracks from getting bigger.
My original bumper would crack at the slightest bump - it was getting brittle, eventually a piece actually came loose and fell out.
My advice, don't waste your time, and money, using epoxy to stop this. Replace the bumper cover.
Well if you are just looking to get by, superglue the cracks and ducktape over on the inside of the bumper. Not visible and should hold it together. Won't prevent the crack from getting bigger but can help prevent things from getting bigger from a lack of support or over-strain.
I only recommend this if you are gong to replace the bummer. But this help the NEED to replace it a little longer buy holding it all together.
These orig bumpres will keep cracking till they fall apart and right off the car. Yours must have always been stored inside, or it would have been long gone by now. Don't get your Hope's up for it lasting much longer. 76 or 77 they changed the urethane compound and bumpers lasted longer. The 80 style with little spoiler built in is somewhat better looking IMO.
