hello to you all,
I have a 1971, 350. which I dont drive in the rain.
I was caught in the rain and turned the wipers on and the door didnt open and of course the wipers didnt work.
I got home and then they worked fine.
I have tried it since then and sometimes they work and sometimes they dont.
can you tell me what you think it could be and where its located?
Thank you all,
Buck Sr
Hi BS,
The wiper door must be fully open before the Limit Switch mounted on the firewall can send the electrical signal to the wiper motor to start the wipers sweeping.
I'd first manually open the wiper door all the way and then use the wiper switch on the dash to turn the wipers on. IF they start you'll know that it's a wiper door problem... not an electrical problem.
Do you know how to open the wiper door using the pull down **** on the right below the steering column?
Regards,
Alan
The wiper door vacuum override. Pull down to open the door.
The wiper door mechanism moves the 'plunger' so it pushes the button on the switch which starts the wipers.
Buck, are you aware that GM engineered a way to manually open your headlight buckets and the wiper door in an emergency? The wiper panel actuator has a rubber plug in the front. If you remove the plug, you can use something like a phillips screwdriver to push in on the actuator to open the door. For the headlight doors, you have to manually pull down on the linkage, being very careful of your fingers getting pinched. I am pretty sure that these are explained in the owner's manual. Lou.
