Default 1968 door panel installation

Installing Corvette America door panels on my early 68 convertible. Installation going OK, but cutting and drilling new panels makes me nervous. Anyway, my car does not have the pull handle that was introduced later in production. There are 2 screws in the pull cup that hold the panel to the door frame. The panels have holes through the ABS backing, but there are no holes through the plastic cup that fits into the recess in the door panel. It does not appear as though the holes that are in the ABS backing will lineup with the spring nuts in the door panel, so I'm thinking I need to do some additional surgery. Anyone have any experience removing the plastic cup from the door panel? It appears to be glued in place. If the cup was out of the way, I could massage the holes in the ABS backing as necessary, then use those holes as a template to accurately drill holes in the cup. The plastic cup would hide any scars from the surgery.

Thanks,

John Brough
