Looking to buy my first vette... always been a first gen camaro and C10 truck guy. I've found a nice 50k mile car. It's roughly 500 miles from me. I have a 1/2 ton truck and have access to both a 18' open car hauler and a 20' enclosed but think the enclosed is a bit much since I like to run 75-80 down the hwy.. chance of rain so if I take the open trailer I gotta have fender clearance so I can open door and roll up windows. anyone have a 77' low mileage with stock tires that can give me the door open height and fender height? I guess I could take 2 x 10's with me to drive car on to raise it or just drive it home.. thoughts ??
I would use the open trailer if you are going to tow with a 1/2 ton pickup and take some 2X10's with you. I tried towing a 24 foot enclosed trailer with just a corvette body on a body dolly in it with 1/2 ton pickup and was not pleased with the experience. I now have a 3/4 ton diesel and it does great.
This is just my experience and your 1/2 ton truck may handle it differently.

yea I'm not going to pull the enclosed. You have any experience with frontend to low when driving on trailer? May need to put 2x10 under ramps??
I transported a 1970 on a U-Haul open trailer with my Honda Ridgeline. (a Pilot with a bed). The trailer had the fold down fender so no problem with the Corvette door. Didn't need the planks, but did once in the past. Wouldn't hurt to bring them. This recent time I parked on an incline and used the front trailer jack to raise the tongue as much as possible to decrease the ramp to bed angle and the Corvette cleared with no issue.
This last time I trailered the car to NCRS judging. I felt like the "Beverly Hillbillies" compared to all the other rigs with enclosed trailers.

I'm going to be trailering my '79 on my 18' open car hauler this summer. I have four 3" heavy duty ratchet straps, but I haven't put the car on the trailer to figure out what to attach them to. Any suggestions on how to tie it down?
My 6t8 is lowered some and has a front chin spoiler. The fender height on my trailer is 8"s, doors open and close. I use 6' ramps and have no trouble loading. The trailer is a 16' with an 18" dove tail. T

There is a very recent post on trailering and tying down. Should find in yesterdays posts. T
