Hello,
Does anyone know if I would have clearance issues by using a long water pump on my 1977 Vette? I would be replacing the clutch fan and replacing it with a non-clutch flex fan. I have the serpentine pulleys for my accessories but didn’t want to risk it if it won’t fit. The body is currently off of the frame and will be put back on in a couple weeks. Any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance!
I can't help you with the water pump question, but you need to watch engine masters
episode 20 on their engine fan comparison, it may change your mind about using a flex fan.
Are you getting the hint; 'drop the flex fan idea'. Welcome to the C3 forum. Electric fans are a good idea and a long pump can be used then. But to answer your original question, the long w/p and a flex fan is pretty close in length as compared to a clutch fan and short pump. Clearance is always an issue with corvettes, but there is a specific distance that the fan needs to be inside fan schroud, and so much left out for proper cooling. T
PS: flex fans make your running engine sound like a turbine.
Thanks everyone for the replies! I was looking at a C3 today and it definitely looks like clearance will not be an issue. However, maybe I will no go the flex fan route and use a non flex.

Joe
either use clutch blade fan or electric fans. and take a lesson from car manufactures. that is all they use. never have they used flex fans

Car is looking good. That's a pretty blue. Nice job!
thanks John! The body is off and ready to go back on. It had a bad frame so I got another one and built it this winter. May 1st the body will go back on! I can’t wait!
