Default C3 Taillight Conversion

Looking at doing a taillight conversion for the back end of 76. Many items about this C3 will be not be classically restored to original look including the body. I'm working on a custom fiberglass rear bumper and want to do away with the circular taillights by using a recessed built in solid tailgate bar for the back brake lighting and turn signals with the Redline LED tailgate light bar system (Yes, like Knight Rider).

Question: These light bars use a 4 pin connection. Is there an adapter or wiring option to connect the existing four bulb wiring to this light bar or do I need to make a custom connection.

Thanks

Are you are talking about the 4 wire trailer hitch type plug?

If so-You'll have to make your own connector. If I were you I'd use the delphi (now called Aptiv) type connectors-as they are really nice weatherproof ones.

One way to wire-without cutting the harness -would be use a 1157 bulb adapter (below)

Color code-
Brown- parking
Light green- reverse
Yellow - left(driver) turn/brake
Dark green- right(pass)turn /brake

You will also have to change your old mechanical type flashers (there's two of them-one for hazards and one for directionals) with the electronic ones to handle the LEDs.

Nice!! I like the idea of using the bulb adapter vs. cutting the harness. Yes, the four pin adapter is the typical wiring used to put these on truck tailgates which would work with a modern car, but not in this situation. There is a revers light on the tailgate bar as well so that should be wired up.

Thanks for the input. I'll try the bulb adapter first to get the turn signals and brake lights in working order and figure on how to get the flasher to work in the new adapter as well.

I'll be sure to post some images when all worked up. After mocking up the design I think its going to look great and one of a kind C3
