Default Yet another Borgeson install!

Hey Gang,

78 T/Telescopic steering column, in the middle of a Borgeson and Front suspension rebuild!! Current status: Upper and lower control arms out, brakes out of the way, and the column has been collapsed (but not to its final position yet, still measuring between the rag joint). My questions are:
1) Is there a general distance between the end of the steering column and the steering component on the new borgeson unit for easier measuring for rag joint fitment (whats the gap measurement?)
2) Is there a specific orientation that the rag joint goes back onto the column?
3) With my PS Cylinder out, I cant fit up the new drag link adapter yet in place of the old control valve - but I am going to put the pitman arm back onto the car before I fit those back up - how do I ensure I get the pitman arm in the correct orientation?

Thanks everyone!

I can't recall how far you have to knock the steering column back in . But I did remove all the surface rust off the steering column shaft with some wet and dry sand paper, then I made sure the shaft was well covered with WD40 ,so when i tapped the shaft back it didn't stick . I also put tape around the the shaft at the point where it would be moved back to the correct position.

Thanks for the tips! Got it installed, and just left the pitman arm off for now - might have to hit it later with an impact, but we will see.. I dont think my splines are 100% lined up for the steering wheel, but I figured that the alignment shop can take care of the rest.

Yes, and I think it's addressed in the instructions (what little instructions there are)

I didn't pay attention and had to remove the box three times and reorient the rag joint to get it right.

1. I had what I believe is a 74 TT column in my 68 with a Borgeson and the shaft sticks out 2.252" from the tube, if that helps. I wouldn't take that number as gospel; you need to tap gently because pulling the shaft back out has been problematic for some. Rubber mallet or a hammer with a piece of wood...tap tap, measure, tap tap, measure...
2. Your column output shaft has a flat spot for the rag joint set screw. Secure the steering column in the position for driving straight. Center the steering gear (1/2 way from lock to lock). Put the rag joint on the column so the set screw lines up, then line up the other half of the rag joint and find the closest spline alignment on the steering gear input shaft. An alignment will take care of fine tuning.
3.The pitman arm is keyed so I don't think you can put it on wrong...other than upside down.
