Default Hello everyone

I just bought a 69 427 4speed in need of a new frame. I have the chance to buy a 68 small block 4speed for parts with a good frame. My question is are the frames interchangeable? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

yes they are, you might have to weld in the rear kick up braces
the for speed frames have a welded mid frame, and the 68s have a front horn exstention
for the core support, all else the same

Hi Lj,
Welcome!
First post!!!
A 69 427 car.... very nice.
Rusty!!! Boooo!
What's the rust situation in the birdcage? Have you checked carefully?

Here's the reinforcement that LT-!kid described.
If the braces on your current frame are solid you could cut them off and move them to the 68 frame.

You can also see the transmission crossmember that is welded in place on 4-speed cars and bolts into place on automatic cars.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

The front frame horns are completely different on a 68 and 69. This is because of the way the radiator is mounted. The hole patterns to mount the front frame extensions are also different. Yes, you can make a 68 frame fit a 69, but it will take some front frame horn modifications to do so.

Default 69 Frame

I have a 69 frame I am restoring now. It is at the final stage of powder coating now. It is a manual frame with a installed center removable section for easy transmission installation and removal.
This one also has improved welds; has been gauge blocked and tram gauge verified straight and true. New body mounts installed on all four mounts, both sides. New gusset before the kick up area as well.
Not sure where you might be located but will help I if I can. This will be a direct replacement for your current frame.
Best regards,
David
