Default Car Interior Help

I recently purchased a new shift console plate, center gauge cluster, radio and center vents. While taking everything apart, I learned I need a new center console, It basically fell into pieces. My problem is, I'm removing the shift console plate and I'm stuck trying to get the heater control removed/separated. How do I remove this? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Are you hung up with the cables or the mounting of the controls, or both? Also, what year?

It's a 76. The cable is the only things holding it to the car. I see there's a push down clip holding the cable on. Do I pop that off? I can't even figure out how to remove the heater control from the shift plate.

I don't know if this will help or not but I will pop in some old photos of my '68 so you can see what the thing looks like removed. I know my '68 is control is one year but there may be enough similarity to point you in the right direction. I am pretty sure you will want to disconnect the cables under the dash and leave them attached to the control during removal.

Thank you 68BB. I've decided I'm going to replace the heater control assembly, so I have to completely remove it. Does anybody know a trick to removing the heat control cables?

It’s been a while since I had mine apart, but IIRC there is a retainer that slides over the pin that the cable connects to. When I removed it I used some needle nose pliers and it came right off. Then pull down on the cable and it should pop off.

Realizing that my photo above would probably keep some of the folks awake at night if they thought I installed that bracket in that condition, let me assure you it was not. Haha!
