think on cars as old as oure, mileage is basically irrelevant. .
Condition is everything, i wouldnt pay one nickel for "low miles" on an old car. Everyone and thier brother disconnected the odometer or paid a speedo shop $25 back in the day to turn them back. Besides, 80k on a carbed car is anything but low miles, most times they would smoke like a pig.
EFI cars last longer but anyone notice the CL ads with the "low" 180k mi ads? Huh?
if the car is in a title state and the title states original or actual and the story/documentation increases my faith that the mileage is low, then yes, I would pay extra for an apples to apples comparison car.
but as always you should base the price on condition, originality, options, doc, mileage, provenance.
some people are very hard on everything that they touch .but they fix nothing.
Some people are **** about everything they own too. I just sold my 31 year old riding mower. Heck, I thought everybody waxed their lawn equipment.
Same with my 55,000 mile '71 Corvette...I always wanted it to look like it did 43 years ago when I bought it.
On another note, what kind of wax are you guys using on your Trane outdoor heat pump?

On a related note, is there an easy route to do a VIN check through something like carfax with our pre-1980 VINs? At least you'd be able to see if the mileage seemed to go down from one owner to the next, if the odometer rolled.
google these.. find the cheapest one, all you want is a title history report that will tell you title status, brand, history, miles ( if miles are on the title, some states don't)
it won't give you names of course and the report is only as good as the database the service reads.. these sites are for profit and will try to milk you out of a 50$ report, but look for the cheapest one.
I picked up a '82 last year with 59,000 miles on it (verified by old title). Since I've bought it, I've replaced rear calipers, brake hoses (that were date coded 1982), and a alternator (also has 1982 broadcast letters on it). The car obviously sat (which didn't do it good), but it runs good and I'll be replacing old parts as I go along. Keep in mind, I've got the newest C-3 and it's 35 years old. These are old cars with parts that didn't have the greatest build quality when they were new, But I love the C-3 body style.

i got mine for 5$ several years ago.
Instavin did find my vehicle. The only info available was the date the previous owner titled it (in 2004). Mileage just read 'exempt' on his registration line as well as mine. Nothing on ownership before 2004; likely meaning the owner before him had it for quite awhile too.
