Would you prefer stock or a modified car? I definitely rather stock not to put down someone's ride but I would not buy a car that is way to far gone to bring back ... if the car came with an air pump I want it ..
how about you guys?
No right answer here..we all have our personal preferences thankfully (a dull/boring world if we all liked the same thing).
Since you asked, I like the idea of modified, putting your own personal stamp on it..whatever it may be.
I was a teenager when the chrome bumper cars were new, a common thing at the time was to change out the wheels, stereo, engine mods, etc., rare to leave them bone stock.

Me, Im just not into cookie cutter,
to me the factory never made a 100% perfect c3 ( a few are close ) so i make it myself,
In my way of thinking the factory had to do some things to meet their budgets and meet federal laws and no way is that always best, its just the best the factory could do within the box they had to work from,
Even some hardcore purists if they drive their c3 run radial tires even though it came with bias...improvements can be made.
I'd buy either, depending on the car and what's been done. Years back I saw an Eagle Talon AWD with extensive engine modifications, turbo, injectors, throttle body and on and on. I figured I wouldn't want that car because if something did go wrong I'd not know what the appropriate part would be for replacement.
I can see the appeal of having a car that is exactly as the factory made it. With the right car I might want that too.
For me modified is the way to go. The stock cars are slow and don’t handle very well at all. I like the somewhat stock style body but everything under is modified for better performance. I got bored after a few months of a stock LT1 car and have been modifying it ever since. I loved the Cobra build since there is no stock or rules. Build what you want.
When I started looking for my C3 I was on the fence about numbers matching originality and a car that may or may not have been already modified. I went with a mostly stock car that had had an engine swap in it's life. I did this so I could modify it to my liking and also allows me to drive it not worrying about devaluing a numbers matching all or close to all original car.
My decision was based on I waited until I was old enough to afford a Corvette that I wanted since I was a kid I want to drive it not just look at it sitting in a garage worrying about it's value. To me the value in my car is driving it.
My car was slightly modified when I got it. Original engine was long gone. So I decided to make it more comfortable to drive. Out with the 4 speed and in with the 5. Factory air was weak so installed vintage air. Old tires and wheels were like bricks so on with the 18's. 3 duces weren't original to the car so I put on the Sniper FI.
If I had an original chrome bumper or big block car I'd try my best to keep it stock. I give it to you guys that have them as replacing failing parts with correct pieces can be quite an ordeal.
My car is stock, but I would have no qualms with modifying a Corvette. The one I have was very close to original when I bought it and I thought it would be fun to bring it back to 100% original and like new condition. If I were to modify a C3 it would probably be performance mods and I would probably not mess with the exterior of the car, except for paint and maybe wheels.
I find it odd that people beat each other up (verbally) over this question. We all have preferences and that is OK. As the old song used to say: "different strokes for different folks." So far, this has not happened in this thread; that is a good thing.
Thanks Pres Trump for lowering EPA rules on autos Things should get even more interesting!
Right, I think I speak for everyone when I say we're all fed up with the wimpish 700-800 horsepower cars the current EPA rules have limited us to - when you're turning at an intersection you can barely squeeze into a gap in traffic with the terrible acceleration of of these cars!
I don't know if I would consider my car modified. It only has headers. It was originally a BB car. But the original motor is long gone. I put another BB in it and is a stock motor. It's a ZZ502 crate motor that is all stock except for the headers.
I like both, but I agree with bats... bone stock lacks just a little. Now, "modification" is a broad term, and covers a wide range of things. My "modifications" are slight and simple, but still enough to have a ton of points deducted at an NCRS judging event. Like polished stainless windshield trim---electric wiper & headlight doors---dual tail lights with LED reverse lights.
