Default Good pad stamp ??

Just finished putting the 3x2'S back on my 68 roadster. I think it was born as a 400hp 427 if the pad stamp is to be believed. 75K miles with the original transmission and a stock 3.08 differential. I think the block is the original one. What say the experts here.

As best one can tell from looking at a computer-generated image, looks OK to me (but I make no claim as an "expert"). Probably the most definitive things you can do would be to compare the engine stamp with the one on your transmission. The same gang stamp was used to make those imprints, so they should look very similar: same minor digit offsets, same individual digit fonts (sometimes "odd" letters/numbers were substituted), etc. If they look very much alike, all is well.

As I remember the transmission stamp looked similar but much clearer in the aluminum. The vin is very difficult to read on the engine but I'm sure it matches the car. The last 4 digits of the vin is 2889 which matched the casting date well. The head were I 14 7 and I 16 7 . The car was assembled in Oct 67 according to the NCRS certificate. Thanks for your opinion,
John
