putting my 69 back together from frame off. I hooked the harnesses up. The engine harness does have power, i replaced the ignition switch, if I jump the starter with a screw driver the car starts, when I turn the key I have power to the dash. .. but nothing when I turn the key to starter. Any help would be appreciated. After plugging everything into the column I have 3 wires that have no homes. A red, red with white and brown. At the fuse panel I have have the ignition blade plugged in and going to the throttle kickdown switch. Any help would be appreciate d. Im thinking maybe the fusable link at starter ? Would that affect it ? Or possibly the nuetral safety switch? I bought a new one. Trans linkage is not hooked up so that I know its in park
YES...if your car is an automatic...the 12 gauge purple wires in the neutral safety switch is what will allows the power to go to the PURPLE wire that is attached to your solenoid.
So...the PURPLE wire that is in your electrical ignition switch that is bolted to the top of your steering column mast tube is the wore that is going to your neutral safety switch....then...the other purple wire goes to your solenoid.
IF your car is a manual transmission car...you have clutch safety switch that causes you to push in on your clutch pedal to crank the engine.
Its an automatic. I am going to replace the safety switch tomorrow. You think that is the culprit? I moved the lever around and still the same. I do not have a diagram yet but I will be ordering one soon.
I am thinking it may be the purple wire located in the engine harness. Any way to run a straight connection ? I would imagine off of the purple and white wire straight to the solinoid
When you turn your ignition key to crank the car. Do you get battery voltage on one of the purple wires in that connector that plugged into the neutral safety switch????
IF NOT...you are NOT getting battery power to one of those the purple wires. You have a problem at your ignition switch or power getting to it.
