Default T top fit issues

Been trying to get a set of blue 1131 tops to fit right , messed with shims , egged out the handle holes for more adjustments , egged out the post also to get the rod hole to fit , now it goes on and off pretty good but with a light from outside I can see a small amount of light on the front inside and one small spot outside rear ... it will leak water for sure.. I did install new weather stripping ... anybody have idea's what's going on? Wrong tops? Or right tops wrong car lol

AV81 most t tops are notorious for leaking especially the earlier generations. It seems they either fit or did not. As always take some pics of the tops and the car and the areas were light is coming though and hopefully someone can give you some assistance. Ike

Av81, the t tops on my Vette, that came with the car fit quite well, it's the side windows that don't line up well to it, especially the passengers side and will require adjustment.

I bought a second pair that were a good deal on the forum, just in case something happened ( have read that they sometimes have a habit of flying off on the highway). I put them on just for curiosity, and they fit terribly. Clearly they need alot of adjustment to get them to fit correctly. Interesting in that, you would think GM did not want to spend precious time ($$)adjusting these to each car. But this is 50 year old design and the 1968 Vette , i think, was the first to put them in production.

So adjust away, I am not sure a third set will make the difference. My thoughts is that it is the car body that has the variations and not the t tops themselves.

Ike

Thanks Ike , I will take your advice and keep at it ....I got the passenger side to fit good it's just the drivers side seal I am working on , besides the other set the guy is firm on $1200 not sure I want to spend that much more unless I sell a set of mine.

I can say from experience that having the correct w/strips DO make a HUGE difference in how the T-tops to fit and not be under extreme tension when they are being installed.
