Default fuel pump corvette c3 1982

Hello

I ordered a fuel pump from a supplier in France, and it is not the same.
The wires are too short and a capacitor is missing.
Do you have a reference to give me?
--------------------------

J'ai commandé une pompe à essence chez un fournisseur en France, et celle ci n'est pas la même.
Les fils sont trop courts et il manque une condensateur.
Avez vous une référence à me donner ?

thanks for help me

The radio noise capacitor is affixed to the fuel pump sender so I'm assuming you are referring to a sender AND pump. But, the new senders do not come with a capacitor as the suppliers evidently deemed them as being unnecessary. I would have to agree based on experience. But, with regard to the actual fuel pump, make sure that it is properly rated for the OE fuel pressure spec of 14-15 PSI and call the supplier - with photos - to proceed with adapting it, assuming it will work. Personally, I would demand the correct pump given the effort required to perform the repair, and its importance to reliability and safety. Your call.

Sso the original fuel pump may malfunction?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Donc la pompe à carburant d'origine risque de mal fonctionner ?
Merci beaucoup pour votre aide.

The good news is that you are only about 15 minutes from having your sender/pump assembly ready to install! You will be pleased with how nice it looks, and peace of mind that you've fixed one of the biggest known issues with a 36 year old `82 C3. A satisfying do it yourself repair.

I had the identical issue as you are having. But, my new Delco fuel pump included two small (4") spare wires and two wire splicers loose in the fuel pump box. I suspect that the pump will fit several other vehicle applications, most of which probably have shorter fuel pump senders - so, they made the wires/splicers optional in the Delco box. So, if you take your new sender/pump assembly to any auto parts store they can provide you with the "fuel-resistant" (important) wires and crimping splicers (mine were blue - you simply cut, strip and connect/crimp them together with pliers).

By the way, check out this "sticky" (I don't know where it got that nickname) - it is a blessing and a literal treasure trove of information!

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...solutions.html

Hope this is helpful. And, thanks for your very good English and including photos. Good luck.

Dave V.

p.s. while reinserting your sender/pump assembly remember to insert the assembly at about the 3:00 position then rotating it to the 12:00 position as you push and twist it back in. Above all, be sure to apply 2-3 layers of masking tape around you fuel door opening to avoid any accidental scratches from the sharp pump.

So you mean I do not have a choice, I need to replace the fuel pump?
I contacted the supplier, he will send the reference of the pump, I will see if there is the catch with, as on this model:
---------------------
Donc vous voulez dire que je n'ai pas le choix, il faut que je remplace la pompe à carburant?
J'ai contacté le fournisseur, il va envoyer la référence de la pompe, je vais voir si il y a la prise avec, comme sur ce modèle:

Yes sir - you will positively want to replace the fuel pump and the small hose that attaches between the sender and the pump while you are replacing your sending unit. Use small hose clamps to affix the hose to each end which were not stock but are strongly recommended and are not included in the Delco kits for some reason - I see they are in this case based on your photo. Also, I would strongly encourage you to purchase a new gasket between the sending unit and filler section (the one you removed with the 8-10 bolt holes) if the original one is brittle as mine was. They are inexpensive.

You are nearly there -

Dave

What codes -if any - did you get from the ECM on the fault test? If necessary ne, can you narrow down the conditions? (Cold or hot engine, diring steady driving or under load /acceleration? Does it just instantly stall or first stutter before stalling and for how ling? Are there any ither clues? It feeld like an ignition issue if - only if - the fuel filter has been replaced snd the injectors have been treated to a concentrad cleaning ( adding two bottles of good injector cleaner to 1/4 tank of petrol and drive it warm ynder city and highway conditions until the tsnk is nearly empty.

Also, be sure to order a shop manual for your beautiful ‘82 hobby car. It has an entire section dedicated to trouble shooting any driveability issues.

no ECM because I have no diag.
no I did not change the injector, I restore the vehicle right now, the car is immobilized on the spot.

Sometimes it starts well and sometimes no.
By cleaning a few contacts it starts better, but sometimes it stalls, as if the gasoline no longer arrives.
I will continue my research.

Yes I bought the manual, but it is in English so very difficult for me to understand everything.

Thanks for your help
--------------------------------

It is important to run the self-test to retrieve any ECM fault codes per the shop manual instructions. And, if you get a 1-2 (no fault codes) to test your fuel pressure since you just removed and replaced the fuel pump and tank assembly. Not sure what “contacts” you referenced.

Retrieve the ECM fault codes yourself using a simple paper clip!
