Also, the latest NCRS TIMJG (5th Edition) has the codes listed on page 108. Indicates HT and HP are for the L79 (327-350 hp). 300 hp cars were HO for automatic and HE for 4spd.
Agree, my money would be on the NCRS manual and the Corvette Black Book being correct that the HP and HT suffix for a 327 68 Corvette is 350hp.

However there are some strong opinions both ways on this topic when it has come up in the past.

Interesting that there is confusion out there on this one given all of the different suffix's over the years. Looks like somebody who had an all original HP for certain would have opened it up as I believe the 350hp had larger intake valves and different cam maybe.

My guess on the strong opinions was some incorrect information up on some otherwise generally reliable sites and books. As I mentioned, I owned an original 68 L79 with AC. The car had all factory docs including the window sticker. The code is HP for that engine with AC.

L79s do have a different cam and I think you are right about the valves as well.

What is the deal about so many supposed experts with such strong opinions. I don't have a strong opinion on much of anything, even if I know it, or THINK I know it as fact. But then I am certainly not an expert on anything because I haven't stopped learning yet. I am old enough that I have seen far to many "experts" be dead wrong on certain issues. Personally I assume there is ALWAYS more to be learned on any topic. It always makes me wonder what is going on when folks get so heated up over silly things.

Finally found some info that I thought might be interesting. At the time I had a base engine, 300hp, HE in my 68 that I thought it might be fun to upgrade to a HT, 350hp. Got this info from this forum.

block, 3914678 same

heads, 3917291, or 92 same, valves 2.02 in and 1.60 out for the 350hp, 64cc

pistons for 350hp (mini dome?)

carb 7028207 to 219

intake same 3919803 same

harmonic damper 6" to 8"

valves 1.94 to 2.02/1.60

cam 929 194/202 to 3863151 222/222

tach from 5300 to 6000 (but keep the 5300 and orange valve covers to make it a sleeper)

Think I got it typed and copied correctly, hope so.
