Engine number matches VIN and West Coast Corvettes confirmed it is numbers matching so I'm pretty sure it is the original engine. I just don't know the correct horsepower.

My mistake on the '68. My book says 300 hp from the factory
V0424HP codes mean 1968 corvette, built april 24, 1968 and built as a 327 engine 350 horsepower manual trans, A/C PS.
check the casting date on the engine block to further confirm the dates line up.
So where can I get the most reliable answer?I’ve seen both horsepower listings in various web sites and it seems to vary in different books. I haven’t been able to find any history or options using the VIN either.
100% the HP code is 327-350 HP with AC. I used to own one. The Rowley website is wrong. That engine configuration without AC has the HT code. Carburetor for both is the same, 7028219.
Also, the latest NCRS TIMJG (5th Edition) has the codes listed on page 108. Indicates HT and HP are for the L79 (327-350 hp). 300 hp cars were HO for automatic and HE for 4spd.

Thanks everyone. Unbelievable how many sources are wrong on this. Also, with a 6000RPM tach I’m convinced 350HP is right.
100% it is.
That is a great combo you have and rare. Not many L79s came with AC. If I recall it was close to a $500 option. As I mentioned, I owned one a few years ago. I bought it from the original owner with the intent to restore. Just decided it was too much for me and sold it. I kick myself in the rear. It was a Silver / Black L79 Coupe with AC. 50k miles. All original down to the carburetor (wow is that one rare) and smog. It was actually bought at the dealership by the original owner the day I was born. POP was hand-dated on the day. Dummy me.
My current 68 is an L79 w/o AC. Owned since 1985.
Love to see pictures if you can post some. Good luck with the car!

I had the same dilemma because my 68 was marked with HP and for years I assumed it was 300 horse. After seeing numerous posts on here regarding this issue I became convinced that it is 350 horse based on my tach markings.
(I pulled my 327 and replaced it with a BB, my original engine was freshly rebuilt a number of years ago and sits well protected under my stairs in my garage. I wonder what a fresh 327-350 is worth? Hmmmmm)
