New to the Vette world. Restoring a 70 Coupe. Need to buy tires. Plan on buying the BF Goodrich T/A's. I want a little of an aggressive look. The local Vette shop, who's been around for 40 years, tells me to install 225/70/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on rear. Experiences and thoughts?
Since the guy who told me to put 225/70/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the rear... owns the local Corvette shop and has for 40 years... I am thinking these are the numbers, especially for the rear. Just a good guess.
If you will put lots of miles on the car you may want the same size tires all the way aroundto make it better for rotating them front-to-rear. If not, make it look the way you like it best.

235 width tires are the widest that will "guaranteed" fit without rubbing prior to 1975. Some get away with 245's; very few fit 255's without rubbing.
Modern equivalent to the stock tires is 215R70-15's. But, by today's standards, those look puny. 235R60-15's are about the same diameter as the stock tires, so no change to the speedo gears required.
Don't know how well you can see the tires on my avatar, but that's what's on my car. (Photobucket has my other pics.... ).
Discount Tire has both 225-70-15 and 255-60-15 in both the BFG and Cooper Cobra GT in RWL. I bought a set of 255 Coopers for my '79 Vette yesterday - they were $106 each (a total of $520 for the set installed, balanced, etc.). The BFG's were $176 each, so that's why I went with the Coopers.
