SBC running question
I bought a ignition control module made in the U.S. THIS time (the last one was from China). The coil could be bad....the pickup could be bad...the round "donut" magnet under the advance plate could be cracked...the problem is, with the parts all being at room temperature they all could test O.K. because they haven't heated up enough to fail. It's kind of a "hit and miss" situation figuring out which part is failing

I think the new module will solve the problem because the spark now is yellow-looking (when it does spark) similar to when the last module failed a while back.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Engine cranks but still wont run/I replaced ignition module.
Now the car cranks and starts immediately...revs good & idles good. When I pull off a spark plug wire it is now producing a cracking spark over an inch long (rather than the yellow 1/4" spark previously)
I took it around the neighborhood at 20 mph. BUT now it bogs down under slight acceleration.....and now kills at stop signs.
I installed an under-the-hood fuel pressure gauge onto the aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. I also temporarily installed a fuel pressure test gauge to verify the new gauge.
Both gauges showed only 0 to 3 psi going into the carb even while adjusting the pressure regulator from min. to max. pressure.
The 600 cfm Holley carb should be getting 5-7 psi. The electric pump is rated 9-12 psi.
O.K. So the 5 year old electric pump is noisy and will not produce the 9-12 psi it was rated at.
So...…….Rabbits=3 ………... doorgunner=2

The electric fuel pump has a lifetime warranty....I will return it tomorrow/install the new pump/check the float levels, and let you know what happens.

). The new pump is very quit compared to the previous pump. I'll be out of town until Friday.....will adjust the pressure to 6 psi and reset the carb floats then.
I'll check in to see what you found/fixed
So...….Rabbits=3 ...………….. doorgunner=3

But......yes......the float arms were bent causing the flooding condition from the carb backfire last week.
However the new Ign. module and the new coil are firing up a storm

Carb was rebuilt by a Racer, You have to Stand On It and turn Left !

Hope You find the problem soon.

and the previous advice is spot on, new parts don't mean good parts... same for other ppl doing your work, I find I still have to go back behind ppl who are very good at what they do and check, and sometimes I find problems... I would go through the carb and spot check float calibrations and a quick check of your linkages... sounds very much like your getting too much fuel from floats not being set to shut off soon enough.
Edelbrocks are very good once you get them right, not as simple as Holleys with all the linkages, but once they are done, you can come back in 20 years and they run the same way... I love my Holley's and Edelbrocks equally in diff ways.

Let me know what you find Tony!
