Default Steering Column Question...help wanted

I've ventured into the dubious job of restoring the steering column from my 72 resto mod car and I have a hit a road block that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.

I've torn it down to the point of removing the pivot pins from the key housing. All of the threads I've read say it should just wiggle off from that point. Well it ain't wiggling off for me so what am I missing? I've attached some pics so perhaps someone will see something obvious.

Thanks in advance.

Did you remove the cap and tilt spring first?

You could try dropping a note to Jim Shea, an expert on columns.

With the spring. cap and pivot pins removed, put the tilt lever back in the column and pull to release (as you would if tilting the wheel). Then the upper tilt bowl will slip of easily.
Without that, the lock pawls for the tilt will stay engaged and the bowl will not come off.

Roger that, I'll give it a try.

One more question. I tore the column completely down to include the inner trans lock tube. There is a foam bushing at the bottom of the inner tube that I destroyed pressing the thing out. Anyone know where to find one or how to make it??? I think it is a need because that inner tube rattles in there without it.

I have used that dense Styrofoam used in packaging. Not the regular white Styrofoam that cn snap and break easily......but the black stuff that can compress but has a lot of body to it and will not tear easily I make them out of it.

As for how to make it...that should be no problem.

I suggest you go to Jim Shea's website and download all his papers on GM steering columns. He has everything you need.
