Have you ever noticed while driving your C3, just normally, at the posted speed limit in city traffic that some cars absolutely HAVE to pass you?
I have owned a lot of Corvettes and while I've seen this a little bit in a C2 or C4, I notice it a lot more in a C3. Maybe that's a compliment to the C3 probably being the most recognized Corvette.
Not always, but regularly, I can watch a car work like crazy to get through the traffic behind me just to shoot past by one car length and stay there. And yes, a lot of them are ricers that I'd refuse to engage no matter what the circumstance. Once in a while it's a dad in a sedan on his way to work. Maybe it just makes them feel better thinking "Ha! I just blew that Corvette off!"
This phenomena doesn't bother me, it's just an observation. I'm wondering if other of my Corvette brothers have noticed the same with all the miles you spend driving your Corvettes.
Of course this could just be a southern California thing......but I doubt it.
The last few years I noticed the same here in CT, only many times they ride the bumper or cut in front. I try to drive outside of city limits now, back roads AWAY from people.
I have not noticed it in PA, but if it would happen I would just smile and wave. Jealousy is a horrible thing to watch. Especially true with those piece of **** toy Japanese cars and their little 4 cylinder engines, boom can muffler and boring appearance.......I don't care how much HP they make, or how fast they go, its sad that they actually think those cars are something desirable. Very funny, but sad really. Maybe someday they will grow up.

I had a BMW on my tail once, weaving from side to side.
Gave him a brake reaction test, don't recall it having much effect.
Had to just ignore him, car has enough coverage to get a good replacement if actually hit me.
Seems to be the ricers or BMW types feel compelled to challenge.
This problem is not just an American phenomenon. I think they like to kid themselves, that because they past a Corvette, they are faster than a Corvette!
Ive seen for over 30s a type of guy likely motivated by tiny genitalia that has to rev his engine, maybe lunge the car and yeah, try to get you to race them or they do that take off fast pass you stay ahead dorkness,
It happened a lot in the early 90s when i daily drove my modded 66, the car did have a look that just asked to be phucked with,
Years ago, I knew by my house where a speed trap was and a few blocks before it a real cheesedick was doing his best to get me to race him,
All was cool until the name calling, dont call me names, so i did rev my 327 350 ever so little and worked the clutch like i was gonna do it,
Light changed, he hit it hard i sat there, i finally drove by pointing and laughing as the hidden bike cop already had him pulled over likely for at least doing double the posted limit...priceless,
Here in so cal, no matter what I drive, everyone wants to pass me, it's like life is a big race. And I'm not a slow driver, just normal. They cut me off, need to be the first one at the light, consider the right lane is a passing lane, speed up to cut in front of me, then hit the brakes to make a right turn, all the while, yakkin on their phones. The worst offenders are these guys in their big pickups. Once in a while, I say to myself, "not today you *%#@! ", but most of the time, I keep my cool and not risk an accident, ticket, or road rage incident. Then again, there's too many old ladies driving 600 horsepower AMG sedans, that can whip my ***.
I agree. That kind of crazy driving is more the "norm" these days. Some of those drivers are just trying to get a better look at your car, so you can take those as a 'compliment'. Others don't even see your car...they just see an empty space somewhere ahead and are 'going for it'.
The others are just acting stupid and wanting to 'dance'. Ignore them.
I see 2 kinds of drivers - those who pull up to look (I consider that a compliment) - they usually wave or give a thumbs up - and those who are clearly compensating for something being underpowered or undersized. The latter are likely to do this no matter what you are driving.
Several years ago, I was driving south on 71 out of Columbus, minding my own business and had a guy in a new Camaro convertible pull beside me, and stare at me until I looked over. Then he floored it. Fine, no big deal. I see that occasionally so I'm used to it.
Then he decided to straddle the 2 lanes in front of me for a few miles. Eventually he got bored, pulled ahead and did the same thing to the next couple of cars. I watched this idiotic and dangerous behavior go on for several miles. I managed to get his plate number, then pulled off the next exit and called the state highway patrol.
Some may consider me a jerk for that, but I could see him hurting someone driving like that - it didn't seem worth it to me.

I get a lot of looks in my '69 but an observation about driving in CT from a man who has decades of service calls in the area:
I could be thundering down the interstate in CT at 300 m.p.h + in some kind of salt flat rocket car literally blistering the pavement..... and my rear view mirror would show a Mercedes, Tesla, BMW what have you glued to my rear bumper. The driver would have a huge Starbuck's and be typing on a fablet and be flashing their lights for me to get out of the way .......

the highway aound here is 65Mph at the fastest posting, I do 75mph to try and stay with the traffic. They are all doing 80+. I got passed by a mini van the other night, I thought that was great. I dont mind that on the highway, its the side streets where they have to pull out in front of you or dont want to wait a few more cars and have to jump out into the one car gap in front of you. If I stop posting here its because one of those A holes finally got me. I had to go to power brakes for self preservation
or possibly an" I stop suddenly for tail-gaters" or a "Student Driver" bumper sticker would work.
Car commercials were way more interesting and fun back in the old days lol. Too many stuffed shirts these days trying to be politically correct and show off cars that don't need any driver input. Where the *** is the fun in that?
