Default stupid question

I took the floor mats out of my 69 because I had bigger fish to fry. I got big feet and those mats can get in the way.

So, one has a notch and the other doesn't. Which belongs on which side? Dunno what the notch is for. Doesn't seem to line up with anything like the high beam button.

The rubber or carpeted matts?

The notch I'm thinking of (carpeted) is on the passenger side
Actually I think the rubber is notched there as well

Oh, and the general agreement is the notch is there to accommodate the lump in the floor where they changed it for auto transmissions

The mats are carpeted and the car's a 4-speed. I think the interior is repro vintage 1982, which is unfabulous.Just didn't know why they were different and my Sasquatch feet make that $%%^&* mat on the driver's side sometimes interfere with the pedals. I thought maybe the magic notch was the some fix but it is a p.i.t.a on either side. Not sure it matters.

There are images of these all over the place in the catalogs and I think the notch is on the driver side so I am wondering what I missed.

I switched to the rubber mats, thinner and I was looking for a change, (should have kept my carpeted ones but I tossed them in when a guy bought my old loop carpet)

But anyway, if they are the ones I'm thinking, the big missing wedge goes on the passenger side

really crappy picture but you can see where it sits

that is correct but I use the notch one on the drivers side because it lines up better with the high beam switch pedal. I also slide them as far back as I can so they dont slide up under the gas pedal
