1981 Glass Tops
I've decided to sell my 1981 glass tops but need help with the pricing. They're in nice condition. No chips or cracks. All hardware intact and both will need the side weatherstrip where the door window meets the top replaced. The other weatherstrip is fine. They're a gold color. Also I'm not interested in shipping them to avoid damage. What's a current value for these tops ?
I also pulled out two Q Jets , one is an original 81 carb if I remember correctly, I'll check the number today. A plastic radiator fill tank and an air cleaner adapter. These were all from an old 81.
Let me know what you think price wise. Thanks Rich

It may help if you post the date code from the tops, a set of letters on each side of the LOF logo. Try to get a closeup photo of that. Also, I'm fairly certain that the weatherstripping is one solid piece so the whole thing will need replacing.

I am wondering if they are LOF BRONZE tops. The logo will confirm this or not....even though those bronze tops were not on a 1981 from the factory.

That helps. PPG were aftermarket tops, original tops were LOF (Libby Owens Ford) and date coded (month/year) for each car. Glass tops were an available option from 1978 to 1982. A nice set of PPGs will work for someone not concerned about originality but may not pull as much cash as LOFs. Good luck with the sale!

As long as they're in good shape, with no cracks or major scratches, and good weatherstrip, I'd say they're worth about $700 for the pair. The 77-82 expansion tanks are $30 new, so I'd say $15-$20 is fair for a good used one. I'm pretty sure the center air ducts are discontinued now. I sold one at Spring Carlisle for $50. They fit 78-79 L-82's, and all 80-81's. The value of the Q-Jets is dependent on the numbers.
The bronze tinted glass tops only came on 82 Collector Editions. All 81's came with the silver gray colored, solid tempered tops, regardless of the car's exterior color. Unlike the 78-80 laminated tops, which were marked "blue" and the 82 Collector Edition tops, that were marked "bronze", the regular 81-82 tempered tops, had no color specified on the glass itself.

They will fit a 1978-1982...BUT...they can also be fitted to a 1968 to 1977. Putting them on a 1968 to 1977 will cause for some reworking at the back of the top where it will attach to the top of the 'B' pillar due to that is where it changed.
