Folks, been out of the vette business for a long time, 30 years ago when I installed windshield I bought a roll of tar like material, put it all around the frame and dropped window into place, do not think I
can still buy the stuff that way, so will the tube of urithane (bad spelling) that they use on newer cars work? or will the windshield be too close to frame and break when I hit a bump
Urethane works. You can still get butyl windshield to. It is frowned upon though. I have heard of people using butyl with bead of urethane right next to it. A method using damming foam. Looks like (is) foam weatherstrip.
My friend recently had a windshield installed in his '68. The shop used butyl sealant with no issues, turned out fine. There was a large gap between the glass and SS trim on the cracked windshield but now there is not on the new one.
