Default More garbage replacement parts

While we are ranting about horrible repro parts, I had to buy a replacement interior compartment pull to replace the one I bought new with the set in 2007. I went to swap it out and I could not believe the tiny, thin little plastic vinyl piece of garbage they sent in place of the leather pull. It’s about half the size and weight, plus they sent a screw that looks like it belongs on a cheap piece of furniture from 1975.

And lets not forget $15 plus $12 shipping for a part that weighs less than a half dollar. Wow.

Not getting into the vendor... I assume everyone is selling this crap?

And yet the corvette owner keeps buying the crap. The problem is we cannot see / try before we buy, and therefor Trust the vendors. The best we can ask is for great return policies and if they are not provided DONT BUY.

I bought mine from what I consider to be one of the "better" parts houses and it was exactly the same.

Yeah. Naturally I sift through my pile of receipts and can find every little interior part bill including all the rear compartment components, locks, bezels, blah blah but cant find where I ordered the good ones from.

Not sure how you are supposed to order "the good ones" without having them in your hand. "Hey, uh, dont send the garbage ones... mmmmOK?''

It's getting to the point that for that little interior stuff, it's nearly better to source the leather and make your own, At least you get some quality control that way.

The ones in the ZIP website says "made in USA". Are those the ones you have?

Really hard to tell from the photos.

I didn’t give it a second thought when I ordered them. I saw them on 3-4 different sites and assumed they were all the same.

Edit: looking around, impossible to tell in Paragon photos, no photo at Willcox.

Corvette Central looks like the good ones I have on the car, with the right screw.

Crazy.

go to an upholstery shop and have them make some if you want nice quality. the ones vendors sale are made for high production so the sewing machines are set up with a belt loop attacment and made 100's of feet at a time. then they are cut to length so the stictching gets cut and thats where it unravels. theyre made in about 20 seconds combined time. I dont know why they make these high production runs of low quality parts yet still charge up the butt for them. its like you said there is about 40 cents of materials there.

this is an easy piece for any upholstery shop,(with a grommet machine) to make in about half hr or so . they can probably find nice quality scraps and do nicer stitches.

And the problem for me is, the landed cost is way higher for me in Europe, and there is no way to send parts like that back, it will be to expensive.
So for me the loss is big. I really have to be care full before buying anything.

And this is regarding a quality, a few weeks ago, I bought a used T5WC transmission, that $650 is gone, I will never get it, he will never ship it to me :- (

Yes being outside the USA certainly carries a premium buying Corvette parts.

I sourced this piece of **** and with postage and import tax it cost me £300.00

Maybe you're not supposed to see this hidden on the underside of the box

The threads are undersized. It's just an ornament on the shelf now..

Hi,

Yes and here you buy GM, and think you will get a quality item, but no, made in China ****.
Not all parts/items made in China are ****, but many are.

Have a great day in UK.
Cheers,
John

Ordered another set where the photo is clearly the correct design. Hoping I don’t regret it.

Wish people could feel/see the difference in the parts. The one I received feels like a piece of vinyl paper compared to a leather strap.

Steve,

If you just need one, email me the color (it's look black) I might have an original here I'd just ship you... I'd have to check tomorrow... If not your no worse for the wear... Service@Willcoxcorvette.com

Now just a heads up.... Almost all the so called reproduction Delco parts are being packaged in Delco boxes and being made oversea's. This would include all the gauges including the tachometers for the cars 68-82, speedometers and all the small gauges. The tachometers for the 1978-1982 cars used a common ground while the imported version has separate grounds which caused us to re-furb our tach board so that when these imported boards take a dump we'll be able to sell a board that will fit them...

Sorry Steve I just checked and I don't have a black pull..

gm restoration parts are NOT GM parts, as an old doc once said to me the GM lawyers don`t care about originality, country of origin or even quality, pay the fee get to use the gm restoration tag.

I bought a nice set from Al knock. Real leather and good hardware.
I have extras but it’s in dark blue. I’ll send you for free if you want them. (Forgot, I have a pair of old originals in good condition - somewhere . If you want them, same deal. Good luck!

Rich

Guys, Im going to beat this shipping thing to death once again. Start buying your small parts on ebay and looking for free shipping. This week alone I bought a center cap for my truck (1/2 the price Summit was selling for AND FREE shipping) 2 repro leather rifle slings (FREE SHIPPING and best price around) and 50 LBS of SCUBA diving weights (14.95 shipping, retail shipping would have cost me double)

As stated earlier, a lot of the small parts are all made by the same few vendors, so why pay extra for shipping?

You may be surprised as to how many of our favorite vendors here have ebay sales sites and offer free shipping on small stuff.

Did you buy the transmission from someone in the US? Why wont he ship? We have members all over the states here and could help with getting the seller to honor his obligations or at least reporting it to police.
