Default New 700r4

I have an 82 c3 and I was wondering if it was possible to put a 700r4 from the late 80s to replace the stock transmission. If anyone has done this or knows if you can and what all I need to do please let me know.

I'm pretty sure your 82 came from the factory with a 700-R4, so as far as I know, any 700-R4 tranny should bolt right in?

If you are concerned about your existing 700-R4 ('82 was the first year for that trans in the Corvette) not having some improvements from following years, you could just have YOUR transmission rebuilt with those improvements...rather than replacing it. You didn't mention if the trans has operational problems or exactly why you want to swap it out.

The car sat in a field not running for 15 years before i bought it. Got it running and when I changed the fluid and filter after driving it about 300 miles there was quite a bit metal particulates (some pretty big) in the bottom of the pan.

Engine or transmission? Your car should have a 700-R4 in it already. If the transmission needs work, just have yours rebuilt to the power level you need to match the plan for your engine. If you intend to keep engine/trans similar to stock, just have the trans upgraded for later design improvements and a new lockup torque converter.
